Ten years ago, Andrey Mityaev, a talented law school graduate, decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a police officer. During his very first shift, the young officer attempts to arrest an armed criminal. A fight breaks out, and a shot is fired... Shaken by the man’s death, Andrey leaves the police force, becomes a lawyer, and takes responsibility for the murdered man’s daughter, Nadezhda. He places the girl in an elite boarding school and provides her with a good education. Ten years later, Andrey meets the grown-up Nadya and falls in love with her. But the young woman considers the former police officer to be her father’s killer and seeks revenge against him. Soon, however, she realizes that her hatred has gradually turned into love...
